John PILKINGTON
John is a Director of SpringActive, a provider of functional restoration treatment programmes for people with persistent low back pain. For over forty years he has worked in both the private sector and the public sector in a variety of management and advisory roles. He has spent much of this time seeking to bring together the two sectors in organisational structures, which benefit from the combination of public and private skills. As a Director of both large and small companies, he has many organisational, financial, and motivational skills that he brings to the development of the VRA.
John is committed the promotion of vocational rehabilitation as an acknowledged skill, and as one that sits alongside a range of complementary resources available to the health profession and to Employers. |
JOY REYMOND Since moving to the UK in 2000 Joy has led Unum´s Rehabilitation Services, responsible for the provision of vocational rehabilitation services to its clients and their employees throughout the UK. She heads a large team of VR specialists and is involved in a wide range of VR projects including Unum’s partnership with Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. Joy trained as a clinical psychologist. She became a Trustee of the VRA in 2005 and was a founding member of the UK Rehabilitation Council. She was actively involved in the development of the VRA’s original Standards of Practice and for many years was a member of the Professional Development Committee. |
Chris Bartlett Chris has Over 10 years of case management and vocational rehabilitation experience. He brings first hand experience of the vocational rehabilitation pathway. He is Head of Case Management Services and Occupational Health Operations at RehabWorks Ltd and a Director of the Case Management Society United Kingdom He was winner of the Young Achiever of the Year at Rehabilitation First Awards in 2012 and a finalist of the Vocational Rehabilitation Association Practitioner of the Year Award in 2014. Chris became a Trustee in 2014. |
DAVID BOOTH David is an occupational psychologist working in central Government on a variety of organisational development issues. Prior to this he worked as an occupational psychologist in a variety of fields across the public and private sectors including human factors (specialising in accessible IT solutions), vocational psychology and in the personal injury field. He has worked, in one capacity or another, on most of the major welfare-to-work programmes over the last 2 decades. David is an editor of the Journal of Occupational Psychology Employment and Disability and was a key architect of the revised VRA standards (2013). He writes and lectures on his areas of interest including employment and disability, self-efficacy and learning technologies. He has a small consultancy specialising in psychology-related research and evaluation in the area of disability, employment and skills acquisition. He has, and continues, to work extensively across Europe. |
DEBORAH EDWARDS Throughout Deborah’s career as a rehabilitation case manager, her main aim has been to provide support and where indicated guidance in the use and development of rehabilitation services. In 1994, Deborah moved from the US to the UK and feels privileged to have become one of the first case managers in the UK to facilitate rehabilitation services to the insurance industry. In recent past Deborah co-authored the first University accredited Case Manager training programme in the UK, Fundamentals of Case Management. After 10 years with Crawford Healthcare Management, Deborah founded RTW Plus Ltd. which merged to form Argent Rehabilitation. Currently Head of Rehabilitation Services at Broadspire Deborah is responsible for the development and implementation for disability management services for employers and insurers focused on maximising recovery and reintegration of injured and ill clients into work and society. Deborah was the first Chair of CMSUK and for three years Chaired the VRA's Professional Development Committee. Her experiences have provided insight into political, economic, social and technological challenges that rehabilitation providers and recipients face in the UK. |
ANDREW FRANK Andrew Frank was appointed Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and Rheumatology to Northwick Park Hospital in 1980, and Professor (Associate), School of Health Sciences and Social Care, Brunel University in 1997. He was part-time Medical Director of Kynixa Ltd, 2007-2009. He was President of the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, 2000-2002 and was the founder Chair of its Vocational Rehabilitation Special Interest Group. He chaired the BSRM Working party that reported on Vocational Rehabilitation, 2000–2003. He has served the VRA as a Trustee since 2005, chairing the Professional Development Committee, 2007-2009, becoming Vice Chair in 2008 and Chair in 2009. He stepped down as VRA Chair in June 2013 and was awarded an honorary lifetime membership. Andrew was a founder member of the UK Rehabilitation Council and sat on the Council for Work and Health. He has published widely in the fields of back and neck pain, disability/rehabilitation and powered wheelchairs in addition to vocational rehabilitation. He was awarded an honorary DSc from Brunel University in 2003 and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2005. |
Shirley MORRISON-GLANCY Shirley has had an extensive career as an occupational therapist, with vocational rehabilitation being her predominant focus over the past many years both in the UK and in Canada, Shirley commenced working in vocational rehabilitation focused practice in Canada in 1991, developing a partnership within a multidisciplinary team. With 9 years of experience, she then moved forward into private practice, aligning herself & working collaboratively with other private practitioners in vocational rehabilitation. Her practice involved providing occupational therapy services to the insurance industry, employers and the legal system. Since arriving in Scotland in 2007, She has been employed within the NHS utilising her experience in VR and occupational health. She now lectures in higher education, with her main focus being VR, disability management and work practice. She is also currently a member of the COTSS - Work group. Shirley is Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University and Occupational Therapist in private practice. |
