Barriers to employment and unfair treatment at work: a quantitatve analysis of disabled people’s experiences
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has published a new research report, Barriers to employment and unfair treatment at work: a quantitatve analysis of disabled people’s experiences.
It found that:
- Disabled people of working age in Great Britain are less likely to be in work (47 per cent compared with 77 per cent
- Disabled people are most likely to mention modified hours or days or reduced work hours as something that has helped or could help them into work.
- Around one in four disabled people in Great Britain said they had experienced some form of unfair treatment, discrimination, bullying or harassment at work in the previous two years (27 per cent), compared with 17 per cent for non-disabled people.
- The main reasons given by disabled people for unfair treatment at work were the attitudes or personalities of other people (52 per cent) or relationships at work (43 per cent); 30 per cent said that the unfair treatment they had experienced was because of their disability or condition.
